The Care and Cleaning Of Your Jewelry 
When cared for properly, your valuable jewelry will last a lifetime!

To care for your Silver Jewelry:
To keep silver jewelry at its best, wear it often and keep it clean and dry. Simply wearing your jewelry will help slow or even prevent the oxidation process. If you cannot always wear your silver jewelry, it is important to store it properly, and clean it carefully.

If you have purchased silver jewelry from Stauer, please enjoy our complimentary silver polishing cloth sample enclosed to keep your jewelry in top condition. Our silver polishing cloth is made of high quality cotton impregnated with a silver cleaner and an anti-tarnish agent. Use as an ordinary cloth on lightly tarnished silver and silver plate to obtain a brilliant polish for long lasting protection against tarnish. The cloth remains effective as long as it is not washed. We recommend that you wash your silver jewelry by hand in hot sudsy water using a diluted solution of mild dishwashing liquid. Rinse the silver jewelry thoroughly in clear hot water and immediately dry it and then keep it absolutely dry. Do not expose your silver jewelry to chlorinated water or bleach. You should also regularly remove dust from your silver jewelry using a soft cloth or a special silver polishing cloth, as noted above.

Once cleaned and polished, silver must be kept dry and away from air. Wrap or store your silver jewelry in specially treated tarnish-proof bags, non-tarnishing paper tissues or in plastic bags. If the climate is humid, store with a small pocket of demoisturizing crystals or mothballs. Do not use plastic food wrap. Do not use rubber bands to secure wrapped silver; the sulfur in rubber, and most paper, causes tarnishing and corrosion.
 
 
 
To care for your Gold Jewelry:
Remove all gold jewelry before showering or cleaning. Soap can cause a film to form on gold jewelry, making it appear dull and dingy. By preventing the formation of this film, you immediately reduce the occasions your pieces will need to be cleaned.

To clean your jewelry at home, you can use many commercial cleaners that are available. In addition, you will find a soft chamois cloth an effective and inexpensive way to keep your pieces lustrous and shining. For certain gold jewelry, especially pieces that do not contain colored gemstones, an Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner may be appropriate. Be careful of chlorine. Chlorine, especially at high temperatures, can permanently damage or discolor your gold jewelry. Do not wear gold jewelry while using chlorine bleach or while in a pool or hot tub.

You can remove tarnish with jewelry cleaner, or by using soap and water mixed with a few drops of ammonia. Carefully brush with a soft bristle brush. After brushing, simply rinse with lukewarm water and allow to dry. If there is heavy tarnish on your jewelry, consult a jeweler for the best cleaning procedure. You should also talk to your jeweler before attempting to clean any gold jewelry set with colored gemstones because some stones require special cleaning procedures.

Grease can be removed from gold jewelry by dipping the jewelry into plain rubbing alcohol. Again, check with your jeweler about colored gemstone pieces.
 
 
 
To care for your Gold Plated Jewelry:
Care is similar to sterling silver but with one exception: Do not polish gold plated jewelry often. The more you polish, the more the plate is worn away. The best care is to clean with dish detergent and once in a while give the jewelry a quick wipe with a soft jewelry cleaning cloth.
